I hope sharing my experience inspires people that are interested in adoption, for various personal choices/reasons.

February 2013
filled out an electronic adoption interest
Received a telephone all about a week later asking why we would like to go down the adoption route - back ground of we are, lifestyle, our beautiful daughter.

We were sent a letter inviting us to an adoption process morning with other potential applicants for April

April 2013
We attended adoption process morning, informative discussion with case workers and a lady that has been through the process and adopted children.
We came away with informal application form, and filled it out.

May 2013
Received a phone call from a case worker to arrange an informal home visit

June 2013
Two ladies came round for half a day to chat to my hubby and I about what we feel we can offer an adopted child, our backgrounds, how we met and how long we have been together for. Had a look around our home (have to sort the spare room out, too much junk) but we have kept stuff from our daughter as she has out grown clothes and toys.
They wanted to know about family (we were honest with our callings out from many years ago).
Asked about our social life/what we get up to with our daughter. And our network of friends.

We have passed this stage to the next stage :)

A report will be typed up, we get to see this then it goes to the case manager to go towards the formal process. We will be booked on a three day course which forms an assessment that goes towards the formal application.

To be continued.........

Jane, just wondered if have been in touch with Jenni B who not only has 2 adopted children but "looks after" adoptive parents. This subject is very close to my heart as I was adopted. All the luck in the world with it.

Hi Jean

I've done a thread under ra and relationships and Jenni has given lots of adviceBigGrin
I'm adopted by mums husband - hopefully my experience will show the adoption team I've moved on and can understand the children without birth parents.

Just a waiting game until September for 3 day assessment course (wished it was done and out of the way).
Hope you are well.

Update:

Had three day pre adoption course last month.
We met our social worker yesterday and made an adoption medical........have a feeling that thing called ra will slow the process up.

Adoption update:

Medical tomorrow.
My 3 chosen references being visited in the next few days for a reference from them.
Awaiting disclosures (previously referred to crn vetting)

We are now upgraded to the new system where the checks/references/medicals are checked out within 2 months time scale, but longer because it will get referred to consultant for her thoughts due to ra.
